Recently I tried to share my Exchange calendar with a colleague, when a big problem appeared. The sharing option wasn’t working.
It was enabled but if wasn’t functional. The same thing happened when I tried to share the contacts folder.

The first thing I tried, hopping that it will solve my problem, it was to do a Repair for Microsoft Office.
The result ? I’ve lost time waiting for the repair to end, but the problem was still there.

Then I tried to thing of the sharing process.

What that means ?

  • click on the Share Calendar or Share Contacts command button;
  • the wizard opens a new message, using the default E-mail account;
  • edit details and then share the information’s.

My E-mail client has an „improvement”, among others. The Account Selection feature is enabled.
This feature can be enabled through the registry or by using Admin Templates.

What it does ?

  • even if I got and default E-mail address, by using that feature, the default E-mail address is „tricked” into believing that there is another default E-mail address.
  • if the feature is enabled, when you will send an E-mail, you are prompted to choose and E-mail account.

This is useful when you want to send and E-mail from an specific account, but after you send the E-mail you realize that it was not send through the desired account.

Instead of seeing the default E-mail address, Outlook shows another text: Choose an address
Because of that, the sharing wizard doesn’t know what default account to use.

How do I enable Account Selection ?

  • Start – Run – regedit – HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoft
  • Right click – NewKey;
  • Create key office
  • Again create a new key for 14.0, outlook and options
  • In the end, it should be: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftoffice14.0outlookoptions
  • Add a new DWORD value named: forceaccountselection and assign the value 1

  • in Notepad add the following text:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

  • save it as: Enable Account  Selection Outlook 2010.reg and then run it.

How do I disable Account Selection ?

  • either change the DWORD value to 0 or add the following text to Notepad:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

  • save it as: Disable Account Selection Outlook 2010.reg

Now, to solve our problem, run the Disable Account Selection Outlook 2010.reg, but before, make sure that Outlook is closed.

After running that registry key, the sharing feature is functional.
